How to determine the degree of wear of drill bits

The degree of wear on drill bits can be determined through the following methods:

  1. Observe the appearance of the drill bit:

Observe whether there are obvious wear marks on the appearance of the drill bit, such as blunt edges or surface wear marks.

  2. Measure the diameter of the drill bit:

Use a caliper or other measuring tool to measure the diameter of the drill bit and compare it with the diameter of the new drill bit. If the diameter decreases, it indicates that the drill bit has been worn.

  3. Observation of drilling effect:

Observe whether there are any abnormal situations during the drilling process, such as slower drilling speed, increased drilling resistance, and decreased quality of drilled rock cores. If these situations occur, it indicates that the drill bit may have been worn.

  4. Listen to the drilling sound:

During the drilling process, pay attention to the friction sound between the drill bit and the rock. If the sound becomes abnormal, it indicates that the drill bit may have worn out.

  5. Check the service life of the drill bit:

Determine the degree of wear of the drill bit based on its service life and drilling workload. If the drill bit has reached its service life or the drilling workload has exceeded the design life of the drill bit, it indicates that the drill bit may have worn out.
